“One’s distinctive personality and style that one presents to the world in the act, art, or process of making effective speeches before an audience.”
Every speaker has a unique public speaking persona. My public speaking persona is highly energetic, straight to the point, at times provocative with a little wittiness. What’s yours?

A beautiful speech is in the choice of words, visuals and messages.
A beautiful speech creates emotions, persuades and inspires.
A beautiful speech makes us remember the speaker for a long long time.
I had the opportunity to share some beautiful aspects of a fellow member Arang’s (research and presenting) speech and 2 aspects to beautify it. I was honoured to be voted the “Best Evaluator” for this stellar high performance meeting at my home club Money Mastery (Singapore) Toastmasters Club once again. In toastmasters, we are never short of hearing beautiful speeches from fellow members.

Interestingly, I switched and conducted several sessions in Mandarin for one of the groups in order to suit the participants’ learning. Not perfect all the time. But every trainer needs to focus on the learning objectives and be flexible in the means, right? What a fulfilling experience for me!
为了使我们可以更好的明白培训的内容,老师特意用中文上了一堂生动的课,很感谢老师!您可以通过这个培训学习和锻炼演讲和沟通的技能,很值得! After the study, a practical exercise was set up so that I could apply the knowledge I learned to a real case on the spot. Very good, highly recommended.
Meng Na, Relationship Manager
The video sharing to emphasise the key points and the individual exercises were valuable. Also the on-the-spot activity, being able to observe, receive feedback and learn from others. Interesting and engaging!
Jeanette Loh, Administration Manager
I learned to create logical, emotionally appealing content.
Zhang Wen, Marketing Executive

How do you make your prospective customer feel? How do you influence? How do you respond?
We had a negotiation segment to experience these in the sales process. What’s your own experience when you arrive at the negotiation stage of a sales process? Are you always in control, always on top and always making your deal the sweetest for both parties?

A beautiful short African story “The Lion and The Gazelle” shared by an animated participant can remind us to continue to run when we wake up every morning just to stay ahead in the curve and even to stay alive. Every little story makes your message memorable for your audience.

A mutually educational workshop with these seasoned sales and marketing executives from Welbilt Asia Pacific and Fabristeel.
Over a fulfilling day from 9am till 5pm, we rigorously focused our attention on the special ingredients to whip up a high impact persuasive presentation. A few healthy recipes include the need to constantly observe the feedback from the audience as we present and adjust our responses, to plan the presentation beyond just the facts and figures, and to use storytelling to borrow someone’s credibility.
Overall, how did the session go? Based on 94% response rate, we received a rating of 89% for the customised workshop content’s clarity and achievement of learning objectives, depth, workload and organisation; and 93% for our trainer’s experience sharing, ability to stimulate interest, use of time, organisation and effectiveness in delivery:

Do you deliver demonstration speeches to clearly explain an activity, a product, or a process? Maybe you are a Yoga instructor, a salesperson for an innovative product or an IT engineer explaining a complex process. We need to make our demonstration talk interesting and easy to understand. In this evaluation on John’s demonstrative speech on the benefits of stretching, I emphasised the critical need to involve our audience, the smart use of humour and breaking down the tick tock rhythm by varying the speaking rate.

The THREE ingredients to become a better public speaker. As speakers, we need to continue to come forward and experiment, develop our experience, and learn the arsenal of tools and skill sets so that we can increase our expectation on how to work the audience and deliver our next speech.
I was loose… I was relaxed… and I became a better public speaker!

How often do we ignore silence in the midst of our busy lives? I could clearly hear Andrew’s message that evening: “Silence is Golden”, “Silence speaks Volume” and “The Deafening Silence is so Loud”. In his speech, Andrew used playful techniques through his choice of words “Stop breathing! I can hear you!” and his choice of actions “SNEEZE!” (without making a sound) to demonstrate the demand of silence. He cleverly brought out the essence of silence beyond what the word literally means; and he showed us its power in practice.
When we are so hasty in our conversations, do we often inject incomprehensible words like “um”, “er” and “you know” to fill those little snippets of silence? Instead of having those moments of silence to pause, breathe and gather our thoughts, have we filled the void with noise and deprive our listeners the time and space to process what we had just conveyed? Interestingly, in the art of public speaking, pauses also create suspense and tension. That is why pregnant pauses are necessary to preempt our listeners for what lies ahead, right before we deliver our punchlines.
A moment of silence contains thousands of words. Let silence has its say!
Mike Ng
If we truly respect the beauty of silence, let us enjoy those soundless pauses. We’ll be surprised at its magical wonders!
